Dubai Womens College graduated over 5,600 students since 1989
|
- 70% of them are working
Dubai Women's’ College concluded recently the graduation ceremonies of the 18th and 19th cohort held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak al-Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology in the presence of UAE dignitaries, college’s director, teaching staff and graduates’ families.
Since its inception in 1989, Dubai Women’s College has graduated 5,615 students, 70% of whom are employed in private sector institutions and governmental departments. Holding senior posts, these graduates are making an indelible mark on the Dubai landscape by changing the prevalent thinking about UAE career women and raising the criteria and expectations about UAE globally.
In the last two decades DWC enrollment grew from 135 to 2,200 students, and the college introduced many new programs, such as Corporate Communications, Biomedical Engineering and Tourism and Event Management, to cater to changing market needs.
“This success comes from multiple streams,” said Rabia Bekhazi, CAREERS supervisor at DWC. “A key one is the relevance of our programs to market needs. The market is continuously surveyed and monitored for emerging trends that are reflected in either adding new programs or updating current ones,” she added.
Bekhazi pointed out that another essential key success factor is the quality of the DWC graduates. Once they leave to join the workforce, they are equipped with superb academic qualifications topped with personal skills and attributes in communications, IT, problem solving, process based thinking and social networking. “Accordingly, they are ready to provide their employer with a new and fresh perspective on how to do things and a continuous desire to achieve and accomplish,” Bekhazi concluded.
Many of DWC alumnae are employed by prominent private companies such as Emirates Airlines, Etisalat, HSBC, and Emirates NBD. They hold distinguished positions in government institutions such as the Dubai Municipality, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, RTA and Dubai Police. DWC is especially proud of one of its early gradutes – Ms. Noura Mohammed Juma, who currently hold the position of UAE's Consul General in Shanghai – China.
For over 20 years, DWC has been an HCT flagship institution providing world-class education for women in the UAE. With a mission supported by the ELITE principles: Excellence, Leadership, Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship, DWC has been recognized as being at the pinnacle of higher education in UAE.
