SourcePress release issued by Royal Philips Electronics, January 2010.
Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, visited Philips’ Ambient Experience marquee during the show, where she viewed the unique combination of High-Field Open MR and Ambient Experience.
“We are honored to have Her Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussian visit the Philips Healthcare marquee and view one of Philips’ innovative solutions in creating a patient-friendly environment”, said Louis Hakim, VP of Royal Philips Electronics and CEO of Philips Middle East.
The MR system does not only offer physicians high-field image quality for advanced applications, but also offers a completely open design that makes getting an MR scan a more positive experience. Many patients suffer from feelings of claustrophobia in a closed MR system. The Panorama 1.0T features the widest open patient space of any high-field MR system.
Philips’ high-field open MR was showcased in a Philips Ambient Experience solution which integrates architecture and design such as lighting, sound and projection. This will allow patients to personalize their environment and wrap themselves in a relaxing positive ambience. Feedback from clinicians who have used Ambient Experience solutions indicates that providing a relaxing environment makes a real difference for the patients. It speeds up the procedure, as patients are more comfortable and relaxed, and in some cases it reduces the need for sedation – in particular among children [1] .
The combination of the Panorama 1.0T open MR along with the Ambient Experience will together create a complete solution for a patient-friendly environment, making hospital visits a more pleasant experience. To date, the combined solution has been installed in several hospitals in the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
You can also visit us at Arab Health 2010 at Booth 3E30 in Hall 3 at the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Philips Panorama 1.0T high-field open MR and Ambient Experience will be displayed at Atlas Medical, booth 4B30.
[1] As reported in J Radiology Nursing, 2007; 26:50-55, sedation rates for the overall pediatric population (ages 0-18 years) decreased by an overall 16%. In the specific population 0-4 years, rates were reduced by 28%.
